About Brian Reynolds
Brian was diagnosed with a rare cancer (chondrosarcoma) over 15 years ago. There is no prescribed treatment for this type of cancer and just after Brian's first Reach the Beach century ride in 2001, he had a lung removed because the cancer had metastasized. Brian rode many more Reach the Beach century rides with only one lung. In a 2003 interview Brian reflected on the event. "My Reach the Beach ride was a tremendous personal achievement. I received a lot of good energy all the way around, between the support I was able to give the American Lung Association and the reminder of how precious every breath is." In 2007, he completed the ride on oxygen.
Brian was an inspiration to all who met him. Brian's friends, family and co-workers from Rejuvenation rode with him as a Team Sockets and Sprockets every year. Brian was also a tenacious fundraiser and was committed to helping others with lung disease by supporting the work of the Lung Association. For five years, Brian was the top individual fundraiser. He raised more than $32,000 for the American Lung Association in Oregon. Brian inspired his team mates to push themselves both with cycling and giving back to the community. Team Sockets and Sprockets raised nearly $45,000 as a part of Reach the Beach.
